Drew Ink The year

Aqua

Apple's first Mac OS X interface: glossy translucent controls with visible highlights, pinstripes and a lozenge shape borrowed from a water drop.

Aqua: a Mac OS X preferences window with a pinstriped title bar, three lozenge window buttons, a toolbar of four items with one selected, labelled fields, two blue gel checkboxes, a round Help button at the foot and a glossy blue default button beside a colourless Cancel.
Aqua, a Drew Ink preferences window, Drew Ink. Drawn 2026-09-10.

Where it came from

Announced by Apple in January 2000. Steve Jobs' line about it, widely reported from the introduction, was that they made the buttons look so good you would want to lick them.
